Students working in the lab

The Department of Post Harvest Technology, one of the major teaching and research departments established in the College was established since the inception of the college of Horticulture & forestry, Jhalawar in the year 2004.

India is one of the leading producers of horticultural crops in the world. But about 25-40 per cent of production is wasted annually due to poor post harvest infrastructure, lack of post production know how and lack of processing facilities. The central govt. is pressing hard for encouraging higher education in the sector, creation of post harvest handling infrastructure like pack houses, cold storage, cool chain, processing units etc. The research works centered on post harvest management of important fruits such as mango, mandarin, strawberry, and processing of fruits especially mandarin, aonla, guava etc. Since inception, the Department is entrusted with the responsibility of undertaking teaching, research and extension in the field of post harvest technology of horticultural crops in Agriculture University service area. Currently the Department has been functioning with one UG and PG laboratory and one Fruit and vegetable processing unit. The department offers UG courses, as well as Master’s programme.
